Energy Psychology

I sat down to do a short write up on energy psychology.  I wanted to give a brief definition and a few examples of techniques.  While doing a little more research I ran across this article that is very well written and does just what I was attempting to do.  So, hhhmmm, why re-invent the wheel?

This article defines energy psychology in general and goes on to discuss Neuro Emotional Technique (NET), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Thought Field Therapy (TFT), and Applied Kinesiology (AK)http://www.asktheinternettherapist.com/counselingarchive-energy-psychology.asp

The only one of the above that I have any experience with is EFT.  (I’m a Certified Holistic Harmony Emotional Freedom Practitioner).  So, I began doing a little digging around on the other techniques mentioned in the above article.  In the process of doing that research I found many differing opinions and techniques that are all very similar. 

One thing that I have learned is that there is no absolute as to which techniques work for which things.  Seems there are varying results with each technique depending on each individual.

Reiki is another form of energy healing that some classify in with the energy psychology, some don’t.  I’m not much for what label to give something though, as long as it helps!  I also have experience with Reiki and I am a Reiki Master/Teacher.  The thing I like most of the Reiki is that it can be used over distances.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is pronounced Ray-key, however since there is no “R” sound in Japanese it may actually be spoken as Lay-key or Day-key. The meaning of the word Reiki is usually taught as Universal Life Force Energy or Spiritually-Guided Energy. The two parts of the word are broken down as: Rei, meaning Universal (the less religious way of saying God or Divine) and Ki, meaning Life Force Energy. Ki is the same thing as Ti in Hawaiian, Chi in Chinese, Light in Christianity and some even related it to the Super Strings in new physics. No matter what you wish to call it, Ki is the energy that runs through everything, all the time.

Reiki is fundamentally the term used to refer to a system of healing and self-development re-discovered (some say discovered, some say created) in Japan in the early 20^th century by Dr. Mikao Usui (Usui- Sensei). This system is commonly referred as simply “Reiki” or “Reiki Therapy” and the formal name is “Usui Reiki Ryoho” which is “Usui Reiki Healing Method”.

Reiki has no religious affiliation, although it has been heavy influenced by spiritual and therapeutic discipline, practice and ideals found in Shinto and Buddhism. Many people of many different backgrounds and religions have taken the basics of Reiki and incorporated it into their own styles. Resulting in many variations of the original Reiki, some of which are still called Usui Reiki and some of which are “new” styles with their own names.

Even though Reiki has no affiliation with any specific religion, I must add that this is in many ways the same type of healing that Jesus, and many other great leaders of other faiths, used and taught.

Reiki Levels

Reiki is usually broken into and taught at three levels. There is some debate about which levels Usui-Sensei used and what he called them. Actually some claim that there are four levels and some claim that there are five levels. I teach that there are three levels, with attunement at each of the three levels.

Level 1, Shoden, allows for the student to become aware of the energy, letting go and letting the energy do its work. At this level students are taught what Reiki is, and what it isn’t. Attunement at this level allows the student to work with Reiki for self-healing and for helping others. Level 1 is for those that wish to use this hands-on-method of healing for themselves and others that are present with them.

Level 2, Okuden, allows for the student to learn the greater quality of the flow of Reiki, through the use of symbols. There are three symbols that are taught at this level which will help in setting the intent, enhancing the effectiveness, doing distance work, and performing treatment at deeper psycho-emotional levels.

Level Master/Teacher, Shinpiden, allows for the student to gain knowledge of the ability to pass on attunements to others. It is at this level that the student is attuned to the fourth and final symbol and instructed in its use. Students at this level will also develop a deeper understanding and connection to the Reiki experience.

Stones and Crystals Healing Properties

Many people throughout history have used gem stones and crystals for their healing properties.  Some people go by the color of the stone rather than it’s type, while others go by the type of stone rather than just color.  Here is a short list of stones that you could use to get started with using crystals and stones.

I’ve linked each stone name to the Wiki Article detailing it’s make up and scientific facts.  Below the list there are some links that I’ve found to be useful as well.

Amethyst: Promotes inner peace, strength and contentment.  It is also  said to enhance psychic and creative abilities. It can also used to support sobriety and help break other addictions.

Amazonite: A powerful gemstone for creative people, it encourages heartfelt communication with loved ones.

Amber: Amber, which is fossilized tree resin, is used to open up the crown chakra and increase physical vitality and energy flow throughout the body.

Bloodstone: Good for the heart, improving oxygen through the bloodstream and encouraging relaxation and reducing emotional stress.

Blue Lace Agate: Can be used to aid in the healing of bone and skeletal maladies. It is said to promote the healing of broken bones and fractures.

Carnelian: By helping to promote feelings of love and acceptance, carnelian helps to reduce feelings of fear, insecurity and anger. Also good for actors and those in the theater.

Citrine: Known as a "merchant" stone, citrine is believed to attract money and increase business. It also raises self esteem and warm feelings of hope.

Fluorite: Excellent for advancement of mind, greater concentration, meditation. Helps one to grasp higher, more abstract concepts. Facilitates inter-dimensional communication.

Garnet: The stone of love and commitment, garnet helps balance energy in and around the body and promote feelings of love for oneself and others.

Green Jade: Said to be a stone of good luck, green jade helps promote peace within and in the world around us.

Hematite: A gem said to encourage inner peace and happiness and increase focus and confidence.

Iolite: Encourages responsibility with money and eliminate debt. Also used to promote harmony in relationships.

Jasper: A gem of protection and nurturing, jasper is said to cleanse auras and provide protection against negative energies. It also promotes a sense of brotherhood and "green" outlook on the world.

Lapis Lazuli: The stone of royalty, known to increase strength and vitality. Also to protect its wearer from physical and psychic danger.

Malachite: The stone of transition, malachite helps balance and ground one's energy and stay on the right path. Also used in the treatment of swollen joints, broken bones and torn muscles.

Moonstone: Called the "traveler's stone," moonstone is a gem of good fortune and protection when traveling.

Obsidian: Known as the "mirror stone" because it helps one look within and address personal issues that need to be dealt with. Promotes forgiveness.

Onyx: Used to enhance the ability to make good decisions, encourage happiness and attract good fortune.

Peridot: Provides a shield of protection to block out negativity and helps to promote inner happiness and letting go of anger and jealousy.

Quartz: A stone of power, quartz is known to promote harmony and align energies within and around the body.

Rose Quartz: Helps calm energy, remove negativity and heal emotional pain. Good to have around chaotic environments.

Sodalite: Promotes psychic abilities and helps to calm and clear the mind. Also used to strengthens the metabolism and lymphatic system.

Tiger’s Eye: Encourages clarity of mind, enhances psychic ability, and promotes the attainment and management of wealth.

Turquoise: Good for creative expression and promoting open communication and friendship. Used in the treatment of lung, circulation and respiratory issues.

Unakite: Promotes emotional balance, also used to stimulate healthy pregnancies and babies. Also used to examine the underlying cause of disease.

Most Crystals and Stones used in healing are called different names by different users, which can ultimately become confusing.
